When we first saw the official gameplay trailer drop for Super Battle Golf, we were pretty excited. The boys do enjoy getting online on the weekend to play Golf With Your friends – so figured this might be a decent addition. What we found instead, was a whole new world of fun and laughter with friends and randoms.

What Is Super Battle golf?
Super Battle Golf is a crazy, whacky & chaotic attempt at a modern golf game – but is it a hole-in-one or a slice?
They nailed it! having an actual character that can run around and interact with the other players in the game really changes things up from traditional golf with friends type games, and it’s that interaction that really sets it apart.
Everyone tees off at the same time, then from there it’s a race to get your ball into the hole in as few shots as possible, with both shots, and time having an impact on score. This creates for some hilarious events and a need to get out in front – don’t think just because you’re out in front you’re safe though! With a cup of tea, someone can easily catch up, maybe you’ll get shot in the back, maybe they’ll run you over – I don’t know. All I do know is, you better move fast!
Pros:
- a good variety of pickups to be used in many ways
- pickups feel weighted depending on your position
- sending a missile when everyone is trying to putt is the most incredible feeling
- damn good price!
- a decent variety of character customisation from day 1
- a good variety of maps to start with – some more challenging than others
- in game voice chat
For a day 1 release, they really did nail down some of the finer details, character customisation is pretty solid, the variety of weapons and maps was surprising considering new releases often feel bare bones these days, and generally just the variety of the maps and pickups means no two games ever feel the same. The in game voice chat is a nice touch. Although we were in a lobby with people speaking many different languages, laughter is universal for all to understand.
Cons:
- Some small areas of terrain are missing collision
- no “drop ball” when the ball is stuck
Yeah, that’s it, that’s all I could find wrong with it. Sure, a few more courses and pickups wouldn’t go amiss, but we’re happy with what the game has already. The only area of the map I found with missing collision didn’t apply to the player, so it was just a small hole, so only the ball slipped below the terrain, unfortunately I couldn’t hit my ball from where it was. Resetting isn’t really an option, all I could do was forfeit the hole.
Overall Score: 80/100
It’s quite a high score off the bat (or club), but since we intended to hop on and check it out for an hour, then spent 5 hours playing, and nearly woke up late to work this morning, we felt it was definitely worth a solid 80/100. The sheer amount of fun and laughter while playing Super Battle Golf earns it a high spot within our rankings.
