Disney Persistent Universe To Arrive In Fortnite Late 2026

In a fresh shake-up for Fortnite, Epic Games have been quietly working on a Disney Persistent Universe in the background. Strong evidence shows we can expect to dive in and play around November 2026.

Epic Games aren’t the most popular studio at the moment, mostly because of the recent news where they laid off over 1000 staff and cut 3 game modes in a bid to save money. Now they’re leaning full tilt into getting this Disney Persistent Universe ready for publish in November.

What is the Disney Persistent Universe?

Disney Persistent Universe will be another layer built into Fornite, a long term, always online digital world, a metaverse of sorts, where players can drop into a lobby, walk around, explore, and hop into a portal for other games.

It’s going to be built on top of Fortnite’s current ecosystem, showcasing what can be achieved with UEFN and Unreal Engine 6. Expanding on this multiple games will be developed, not just creator island experiences, but full games, like the Disney Extraction Shooter already slated for a November ’26 release, which is the first of 3 games already in development.

Disney invested $1.5B to see this happen, moving away from licensing, and into a more controlled environment where they can have hands on experience in game development while retaining IP rights.

What Can We Expect From A Disney Persistent Universe?

Well, I think we can expect to see Social Hubs, some reports state we could be looking at Disney Theme Park style hubs and Disney Worlds, Narrative experiences tied to Star Wars, Marvel and Pixar, Competitive games such as the previously mentions Extraction Shooter and other user-generated content spaces.

Think Disney World, where every experience is a ride, and the users get to create their own rides.

We may also see cross-IP interaction, with Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar characters in shared spaces, some users may take this opportunity to create something more cinematic, rather than gameplay events, let’s throw Buzz Lightyear in next to ET in a cinematic Galactic Senate scene. Let’s see what happens when Captain America’s Shield is used against a light saber in battle.

The possibilities will only be limited by imagination when it comes to user generated content, although I would also expect some heavy moderation fi Disney are involved, that’s if they allow users to generate content using Disney assets.

Another side we could hope to see, is Disney+ tie-ins with the Disney Persistent Universe, maybe log onto Fortnite, watch a Disney Movie, then hop into a brand new game as soon as the credits end.

Details are still a little thin, but Epic Games have done extremely well with Fortnite over the years, and Disney have enough confidence in Epic that they’ve been willing to throw $1.5B into the mixing pot to ensure it happens, and with Epic recently moving away from game developer to platform, this seems like the perfect IP to start making Epic’s version of a Metaverse.

With an expected November release date, is the fanbase strong enough to go up against the next Grand Theft Auto 6 release?
