New Disney Extraction Shooter on the Horizon

Fans of Disney know that Disney doesn’t really do violence, an attempt to maintain their squeaky clean look and appeal to children – but a new Disney extraction shooter game on the way, might just be a tactic to join a more modern era of gaming.

Reports are in that Epic Games are creating some kind of Disney Arc Raiders abomination scheduled for release around November 2026. This will be part of the Disney Persistent Universe coming to Fortnite later this year.

So What Is This New Disney Extraction Shooter?

New Disney Extraction Shooter

There isn’t a lot known at the moment, but based on what we do know of Disney and extraction shooters in general, we can make some pretty good guesses.

We expect that you and a squad will be dropping into corrupted zones to collect Memory Shards or Hyper Fuel which will be used to power the Central Hub.

The Enemies – Some kind of glitched robotic or shadow versions of Disney characters, We can’t have Mickey Mouse running around shooting Elsa, that would ruin Disney’s theme of soft violence they’ve worked so hard to maintain.

PvP – Well there will be the challenge, characters battling with characters, they’re going to have to remove death entirely, which Fortnite has already done with eliminations, now they just need friendlier weapons, perhaps instead of the finisher we see in Arc Raiders, it’ll be some kind of beacon you place on an enemy player and they get picked up and sent back to the Central Hub.

What all this means, with the overall goal of collecting Memory Shards or Hyper Fuel, is in the background, Epic can continue developing the Disney Persistent Universe and hold us players responsible for it’s progress.

This news comes just a week after Epic announced that over 1000 staff were laid off and game modes were shutting down, in a bid to cut costs and make savings to put Epic in a better place long term. For a while now, Epic Games have been shifting their focus from developer, to platform, allowing players to create the experiences for other players to enjoy, and we suspect at some point in the future, Disney assets will be available for developers to use as part of this structure.

The new Disney extraction shooter might just be what’s needed to turn Epic around, as Epic really needs this to succeed considering the $1.5B that Disney has poured into Epic for this Persistent Universe project, according to Bloomberg. The big question is… Can it contend with Grand Theft Auto 6?
